Our History
Experience the Legacy of Stancraft Boats
Founded in 1933 by W.H. “Billy” Young and his son Stanley C. Young on the shores of Flathead Lake, Stancraft has been making hand-crafted, iconic wooden boats for over 90 years.
One of three children of Stan’s, Syd took over the helm of the company and moved the operation to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with their two daughters, Sydney and Amy. Syd and his wife, Julie, created an incredible business of restoration, storage, service, and production. In the late 1990s, Syd focused on better performance of the boats and created the iconic Stancraft design. In 1997, Syd and Julie sold “The Boat Shop” and everything that came with it, besides the name and brand of Stancraft. Syd and Julie enjoyed a semi-retired life occasionally building new specs of Stancraft Wooden Boats.
Third Generation
The modern, and third, generation of Stancraft started in 2003 when Syd and Julie’s daughter, Amy, and her husband Robb Bloem, moved back to Coeur d’Alene. This generation started with 3 boat builders in a 2,000-square-foot shop and has grown to over 45,000 square feet of manufacturing over 136,000 square feet of storage and service space and more than 100 employees in Hayden, ID.
No two boats are the same, as they are as unique as their owner. Every boat is crafted by hand, uniquely to the specs of our customers on our campus in Hayden.
Stancraft Wooden Boats has become an iconic brand on Lake Coeur d’Alene and has delivered boats around the world. Throughout the four generations of family boat makers, we have always been dedicated to preserving the art of wooden boat building while infusing modern innovation. Because simply said, no one else does what we do.
